They are typically categorized into compact, small, medium, and large size classes. The compact category generally includes 80-horsepower (60-kilowatt) or less models with operating weights of 0.91 tonnes (1 U.S. ton) or less, while the large category includes 250- to 1,000-HP (186- to 745-kW) or greater models topping 235-t (260-U.S.-t) operating weights.

    Along with engine size, lift reach, lift capacity, bucket capacity, breakout force, and operating weight, the primary considerations when considering a wheel loader purchase include what materials and how much of them you’ll be consistently moving, as well as what other equipment you’ll use in conjunction with the wheel loader.
