Overview This 2027 Peterbilt 589 Traditional day cab is set up as an aluminum dump truck for construction materials and general freight. It carries a 17' Heritage Aluminum Smooth Side polished dump body. The truck is rated at 80,000 lbs GVWR and 80,000 lbs GCW, with a 6% maximum grade rating and a typical operating speed of 70 MPH. Engine & Drivetrain The engine is a Cummins X15 Performance Series rated 565 HP at 1,900 RPM (governed at 1,900) with 1,850 lb-ft of torque at 1,000 RPM, built to 2024 emissions standards. The powertrain is optimized for performance vocational applications or heavy GCWR. The transmission is an Allison 4500 RDS-P Gen 6 Rugged Duty Series automatic. It runs in a 6-speed configuration with a TC-571 torque converter, Neutral at Stop, primary shift schedule 1, and a dash-mounted push-button shifter. The engine has a Jacobs compression brake with controls on the right-hand column, a 37.4 CFM air compressor, and a 2-speed fan clutch for frequent start/stops. Cooling is a high-efficiency system. Air intake uses 15" premium stainless, cowl-mounted air cleaners with slotted stainless steel caps. Electrical equipment includes a PACCAR 160-amp alternator, a PACCAR premium starter, four PACCAR premium 12V dual-purpose batteries (2,920 CCA), and a 110–120V immersion block heater. The fuel system has a PACCAR extended-service fuel/water separator with fuel heat. The exhaust is a dual system with a single-module DPF/SCR mounted right-hand under the cab, a DPF regeneration switch, chrome exhaust pipes, and 36" chrome standpipes with curved tips and clear coat. Other engine features include a remote PTO/throttle 12-pin provision in the engine bay, a PTO maximum engine speed of 1,400 RPM, a 5-minute engine idle shutdown timer, and a 68 MPH maximum vehicle and cruise speed. The driveline is a 1810 HD main driveline with one midship bearing (4.5" x .180 wall tubing) and a 1710 interaxle driveline. The rear axle ratio is 4.30. Chassis & Axles The frame uses 10-3/4" steel rails at 3/8" thickness, running to 354". It has a full steel inner liner, zinc-coated anti-corrosion treated rails, aluminum frame rail crossmembers, and a square end of frame with a steel crossmember. At the front, a PACCAR FX-20 wide-track steer axle is rated at 20,000 lbs with a 4" drop. It uses PHP10 iron Preset+ hubs and Bendix ADB22X air disc brakes with pad dust shields. Steering is TRW THP60 dual-gear power steering with a frame-mounted reservoir and cooler. At the rear, a Dana Spicer D46-172 tandem is rated at 46,000 lbs. It has heavy-wall drive axles, a drive axle lube pump, and synthetic lubricant in all axles. The tandem also has full-locking diff locks with speed interlock on a separate dash control, Bendix ADB22X air disc brakes, and aluminum Preset+ hubs with pad and rotor dust shields. The pusher is a Hendrickson EXS20 self-steering axle rated at 20,000 lbs, set 50" from the centerline of the forward drive axle. It has iron Preset+ hubs with cast drums, a crossmember-mounted regulator with a switch and gauge in the dash, and it stows higher when lifted for more ground clearance. Engineering ratings are 20,000 lbs on the front GAWR, 20,000 lbs on the first intermediate, and 23,000 lbs each on the second intermediate and rear. Wheelbase is 246", cab-to-axle is 146.1", and cab-to-end-of-frame is 203.5". Braking and safety equipment includes Bendix Smart ATC traction control, 6S/6M ABS, a tire pressure monitoring system, a pneumatic park brake, and an SBM valve. The fuel tanks are a 26" polished aluminum 80-gallon tank on the right behind the cab and a 50-gallon tank on the left behind the cab, both with polished fuel and hydraulic tank straps. The small 14-gallon DEF tank is mounted left-hand back of cab under a polished stainless cover. Air equipment includes a Bendix AD-HF EP air dryer with heater, coalescing filter, and extended purge. The air tanks are polished aluminum outside the frame rails, with pull cords on all tanks and nylon chassis hose. There is a dash-mounted self-returning brake hand valve plumbed to all service brakes and a 7-way socket at the end of frame. Up front is a chromed steel Texas-style bumper with 2 tow points. Suspension The rear suspension is a Peterbilt Air Trac rated at 46,000 lbs with 52" axle spacing. It has air springs with internal bumpers, a single leveling valve on the forward drive axle, and a dash-mounted dump switch with indicator light. Air bag guards are installed on the rear suspension. At the front are 20,000 lb taper leaf springs with Tenneco shocks, HD iron spring brackets, greasable spring pins, and 70 mm spacer blocks. Cab & Interior The cab is aluminum with a 131" BBC aluminum hood, a polished crown, and spring tilt assist. The interior is Peterbilt's Platinum package in Alpine Gray with a rubber floor. Both seats are Peterbilt LX Premium with air ride, high backs, leather, and black seat color, and each has an armrest. The steering wheel is a premium leather-wrapped multi-function wheel with audio and cruise controls on a tilt/telescoping column. For the driver, there is a 15" digital instrument cluster with bright bezel gauges. The cluster shows engine hours, PTO hours, percent torque, transmission oil temperature, air filter restriction, tractor and trailer brake application pressure, two suspension air pressures, and trailer reservoir pressure. Separate backlit gauges show front and rear drive axle oil temperature (with rear axle gauge guards), engine oil temperature, fuel filter restriction, manifold pressure, and pusher axle pressure. Three additional dash switches are wired in. Audio and communication include a ConcertClass AM/FM/WB radio with 3.5 aux, satellite radio, Bluetooth phone/audio, a USB port, a 4-speaker midlevel package, a Cobra 29 CB in the center of the header, and two 48" CB antennas on the mirrors. Comfort features include a combination heater/air conditioner with an additional fine particulate filter, cab air suspension, a thermal insulation package, power locks and windows, Peterbilt keyless entry, and dark window tint. The cab also has a one-piece curved windshield, a fixed one-piece rear window, electric intermittent wipers, a stainless V-style sunvisor, and a removable bugscreen. Mirrors are heated, motorized 7"x18" stainless West Coast mirrors with 8" heated stainless convex mirrors and a look-down mirror over the passenger door. Exterior equipment includes a textured NFPA-compliant cab grab handle, an air horn under the cab, 2" fender lips, and a stylized aluminum battery box with a non-slip step. The battery and tool boxes are polished, the battery box step has HD reinforcement, and there is an aluminum non-slip aftertreatment cab entry step. Other features include a cab power disconnect switch, a low-voltage disconnect, a battery jumper terminal, a pull-out tray over the glove box, a rear wall map pocket, a fire extinguisher, and a triangle reflector kit. The truck has global telematics hardware, Class 8 fleet tracking, and a 5-year SmartLinq RD subscription. The lighting package includes projector headlights with integral turn signals, five LED bus-bullet marker lights, LED stop/turn/tail/backup lights, extra LED turn signals at the lower rear corners, and two flush-mounted LED load lights. Paint is a two-stage Axalta finish in White on the cab, hood, fenders, hood top, and roof, with a Black frame. Body & Equipment The body is a 17' Heritage Aluminum Smooth Side dump body, 96" wide, with a polished finish. The sides are 60" tall plus an 8" board. Side panels and side posts are polished extruded panels with a .180" inner sheet. The body has 3/16" polished dirt shedders, a 9" extruded polished top rail, a 2"x8" board on each side, and 3'x8' inside liners. The floor is 1/4" at the front and 3/8" over the rear 96". It sits on 6" I-beam longsills with rubber cushion and 3-1/2" extruded boxed crossmembers on 12" centers, with a polished bottom rail with radius cleanouts. The bulkhead is 1/4" polished. The 18" cab shield is narrowed on both sides and made of 3/16" polished material with a 6" face. The tailgate is a 68" polished smooth-side gate in 1/4" material. It has an overslung top hinge, tailgate chains, air tailgate controls, a center coal door, salt locks on each side, and a sand seal on the inside of the gate. Hydraulics include a pin-to-pin mount telescopic hoist with feathering valve air control and a pump kickout switch. The 3-line system has shutoff valves and dash lights for PTO engaged and body up. The steel hydraulic tank is mounted in the doghouse area, and a control tower between the seats runs the body, strobes, and tarp. The tarp is an Aero electric arm flip system with mesh material and top-mount arms. Body lighting is an LED package with stop/turn/tail lights in the rear posts and split light panels (two red stop/turn/tail, one clear backup). There are 8 marker lights per side top and bottom and 6 in each rear post. Strobes are on the front of the cab shield at a 45-degree cut and in each rear post. The chassis has round stop/turn/tail lights in the plate and an ID cluster on the hinge. Other equipment includes a front driver-side panel ladder with one step below the bottom rail and front inside steps. Polished aluminum splash shields sit up front, with full-width Heritage rear flaps hung with hooks on straps and chains. The body also has a 6" bolt-on rear apron, polished aluminum fender skirts over the drives and lift axle, a body prop, and a back-up alarm. Lift axle controls include a gauge, regulator, and Schrader valve on the passenger side outside. Boards are black to complement the white cab. All steel hardware is painted to match the cab, with 1/4" striping on the top and bottom rail. Tires & Wheels The front tires are 20-ply 315/80R22.5 M870 tires on Alcoa 89U637 22.5x9.00 high-polish aluminum wheels. The rear has eight 16-ply 11R24.5 M863 tires on Alcoa 985657 24.5x8.25 high-polish aluminum severe-service wheels. The pusher axle has two 20-ply 315/80R22.5 M870 tires on Alcoa 89U637 22.5x9.00 high-polish aluminum wheels.
